About RV Dump Check & how we verify
RV Dump Check is a small, independent directory of RV dump stations. Lots of dump station listings online are stale. We'd rather list fewer stations and be right about them.
Where the data comes from
- Official operator pages: Recreation.gov campground pages (National Park Service, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and other federal operators), state park agencies, and travel-center chains' own location pages. We read individual public pages. We don't use bulk endpoints those sites disallow.
- Recreation.gov RIDB API: the official federal recreation dataset. It needs a free API key, which we haven't set up yet.
- OpenStreetMap: we use dump station locations tagged
amenity=sanitary_dump_stationto find candidates. OSM-derived records are kept as a separate dataset, marked “Unverified (OpenStreetMap)”, and attributed © OpenStreetMap contributors under the ODbL. - We do not copy from other dump station directories or apps, or from Google Maps.
Indexing rule
A station gets its own search-indexed page only if it has a cited source and at least its fee or its access rules (who can use it). Other verified stations still appear on state and list pages and have a basic page marked noindex until we learn more.
What “verified” means
A listing is “verified” when we've read a current official source that states the fact, and we quote that source on the station page with the date we checked it. Each field is filled only if a source says it: fee, access for non-campers, potable water at the station, winter status, hours. Otherwise it reads unknown. Drinking water somewhere in a campground does not count as potable water at the dump station.
Corrections
If you were there and something's different, please send a correction. Include the station, what you saw and the date.
Affiliate disclosure
Some guide pages may link to products or memberships, and we may earn a commission from them. Those links are labeled. They never affect which stations we list or how.
